Chapter 979: Meet the evil god

Zhou Fang went mad.

Looking at his entire history, living through it must have been thrilling and poignant, but in the history of this Universe, Zhou Fang's history was so insignificant, dull, and dispensable, nothing more than a brief moment.

It was as if one civilization perished, but others continued to exist; a disaster struck here, a new planet was born from a star there, a new catastrophe occurred somewhere else, and then new life emerged elsewhere. Ultimately, spring came and went, and everything remained as before.

But Zhou Fang wasn't actually dead yet.

He had merely gone mad.

Too much will, too much life, and the madness under the influence of fate, the guilt of killing his wife, and even that 'Yao Ji,' all unknowingly split his personality.

That 'Yao Ji' was himself, his demonic thoughts.

The real Yao Ji would never do such a thing; Yao Ji was completely indifferent to Mortals.

Finally, he chose a decisive path.

Enter demonhood.

The end of madness is entering demonhood; as long as the world is wrong, then he himself won't be wrong.

If he isn't wrong... everything can be comforted, and all pain will no longer exist.

At this moment, Zhou Fang entered demonhood.

The moment Zhou Fang entered demonhood, the surrounding demonic thoughts flared up.

The 'Yao Ji' reappeared behind Zhou Fang, then transformed, taking on the appearance of a Nascent Heavenly Demon.

Nascent Heavenly Demons and Heavenly Demons look very similar, both being pure black spheres that can reflect everyone's appearance and inner self. However, the difference is that you know a Heavenly Demon is a Heavenly Demon at first glance, as its form itself carries information, whereas a Nascent Heavenly Demon is just a sphere.

Yet, similarly, both can change arbitrarily, and this change is essential, making it almost impossible to discern the difference from the original host.

The Nascent Heavenly Demon, in the form of his wife, embraced Zhou Fang from behind: "So... there's only one way to prove you're not Li Qi."

"Li Qi wouldn't attack those people; only you would do that, wouldn't you?"

Zhou Fang glanced at the Nascent Heavenly Demon: "Although you're inciting me, I have to say, you're right, and... fate binds me, and it also binds Li Qi."

Zhou Fang emerged from indoors and walked towards the boundless Void Realm of the Universe.

He stepped into the interior of the fast Universe; around him seemed to be constantly rotating circles of silver mist.

He seemed unaware, only feeling that before him, a black, sloping metal uphill path vaguely appeared.

This black uphill path was visible only to him.

In the eyes of outsiders, he was merely walking ordinarily on the gray wasteland outside this base, as if taking a stroll.

However, even with such a stroll, every step he took was faltering.

He began to walk forward along this uphill path, visible only to him, his shoe soles treading on the grayish-white sand, a faint creaking sound reaching him, seeming so distant.

He continued to walk slowly forward, proceeding along the edge of the base.

Silent shadows surrounded him, and the outlines of steel buildings flickered like ghosts.

Clusters of diffused lights passed by him, like isolated islands, and against the backdrop of the lights, the darkness ahead appeared even more gloomy.

The ground gradually sloped upwards, the angle increasing, and his walk became more difficult, with more and more stones exposed on the ground, each protruding upwards and varying in shape.

To others, he still appeared to be walking on flat ground, but his steps became increasingly difficult, almost as if he were climbing a mountain.

Finally, he even lay down on the ground and began to crawl.

And in Zhou Fang's own perception, it was merely that the metal high wall in front of him grew steeper and taller, to the point of transforming from an incline into a vertical wall.

So, he began to climb the mountain, strenuously scaling this wall that others could not see.

As Zhou Fang climbed, he gradually entered a state of trance.

Fragments of his past life flashed before his eyes.

In the civilization where he was first born, a small boy was reading in an upstairs bedroom.

In the narrow alley of his hometown, a young man joyfully ran through it every morning.

Then he embarked on the path of cultivation, discovering his own extraordinary nature.

He witnessed the malevolence of the gods, the malevolence of Yao Ji, and thus chose the path of god-slaying.

Throughout his life, Zhou Fang never stopped, always rushing forward, always in endless change.

Which one was real, the past him or the future him?

Every time he reached a new world, Zhou Fang could always see another new world in the distance beckoning to him.

Thus, upon this high wall, Zhou Fang saw unfamiliar faces begin to gather around him—

Oh, not unfamiliar; they were all other 'fragments.'

These fragments appeared on this high wall...

No, they *were* this high wall itself. Countless fragments, their corpses, formed this high wall. Zhou Fang was crawling upon their corpses, continuously moving upwards.

These faces were like blurred shadows approaching him in the mist; they had all existed truly for a period of time, all were Daoist Masters of flesh and blood; but soon they would be covered by the past, disappearing like fleeting clouds, as if they had never existed.

The little girl named 'Reboot,' his own wife, every fragment he had killed, the karmic killing he committed to Seal the evil god, destroying them all, thinking he could Seal the evil god this way.

But at this moment, Zhou Fang suddenly realized something.

What he sealed this way was not the evil god.

It was himself.

Now, they were long gone, and the high wall they formed stood before Zhou Fang. If Zhou Fang didn't climb this high wall, he would never get out and would never be able to do what he wanted to do.

How... foolish.

He only realized this after he entered demonhood.

However, he also began to feel fear.

Before him, he crawled to a corpse, which was in the image of his wife. She had so quickly joined the ranks of those who came before, forever disappearing from his life.

So... behind the veil of time, in that unknown world ahead, on top of the high wall, what kind of strangers would suddenly appear before him?

Zhou Fang's heart began to tremble.

He kept crawling like this, and soon, the dense fog around the high wall brightened.

Zhou Fang continued to climb persistently, and so the high wall began to turn into a flat road again. He suddenly found that he could see further.

The high wall in front of him began to tilt, becoming flat, and his posture slowly changed from 'climbing upwards' to walking up a gentle slope, treading on those corpses as he moved forward.

From an outsider's perspective, he slowly stood up and began to walk again, though still faltering and still on an uphill path, but at least he was standing.

Finally, he reached the other side of the high wall.

The ground here was very smooth, without a single stone.

Mist was evenly distributed in all directions, and light permeated the mist, as if there was an exit behind it.

It was like a dark cave, finally reaching the entrance, where beautiful sunlight and fresh air shimmered.

So, Zhou Fang continued to walk upwards; with each step, his vision broadened a little more, and the brightness of the surrounding dense fog diminished by a fraction, the light gradually converging above him into an increasingly bright spot.

Suddenly, he realized he had walked out of the dense fog, and only then did he see that he was at the very top of this high wall.

He finally climbed to the end, to the very top.

Finally, even the last wisp of white light vanished completely.

On the mountaintop, the night sky was as clear as crystal.

Here, a colossal divine statue hung above his head.

All the sights Zhou Fang had ever witnessed in his life could not compare to the magnificent spectacle before him.

The divine statue's radiance illuminated the night sky, and on its surface, vibrant, rainbow-like colors intertwined, merging into bands of seven-colored light, layer upon layer, spreading outwards in a regular pattern.

Near the edges of these lights, the various colors gradually faded, then merged into a hazy pink hue.

This pink circle enveloped the Dharma form itself, gradually turning purple, then purplish-red, and finally forming a clear, distinct outline at the edge, drawing a colossal disk against the night sky.

Ancient, indestructible, eternal, and immortal... no adjective could fully describe it.

The most powerful deity appeared so effortlessly before Zhou Fang, a small, humble, insignificant pilgrim who lived and died in a day.

Zhou Fang spent his entire life, sacrificing everything, to finally arrive before this divine statue.

He spent endless time searching for this evil god, only for it to appear before him in this manner.

He had seen the divine statue's face before.

It was... Li Qi.

Zhou Fang's lifelong torment, the object of all his mental effort, Zhou Fang's archenemy, the reason for his very existence; one could even say, this was him.

Zhou Fang stood before Li Qi; he didn't even know if seconds, minutes, or hours had passed; his sanity could no longer judge.

In this eternal moment, heaven and earth were silent, and Zhou Fang was completely lost in the divine statue's splendor.

Although, in the eyes of outsiders, he was merely standing on a desolate land, looking up at something unknown, with nothing actually there, Zhou Fang himself appeared immensely solemn.

At this instant, Zhou Fang's mind became clearer than ever before.

Zhou Fang watched the colossal divine statue in mid-air slowly absorb the surrounding high wall made of fragments.

Such a magnificent scene unfolded slowly, as if in slow motion, appearing somewhat strange.

But no matter how strange, it was undeniably true, for that divine statue was simply a gluttonous evil spirit, insatiably devouring all the surrounding fragments.

Seeing this scene, at this very moment, the answer he had been desperately seeking suddenly appeared in his mind, though he knew not whence it came.

So Zhou Fang felt a genuine surge of anger towards the evil god!

He charged, rushing towards the evil god.

He would kill the evil god!

This was the source of all misfortune, the root of all fate, the center of countless conflicts; the sorrow of all fragments was because of him!

The culprit!

Under the gaze of the Nascent Heavenly Demon behind him, Zhou Fang charged towards the evil god.

Then, he passed through the evil god.

With a whoosh, the world was extinguished.

All surrounding sights dissipated, leaving only Zhou Fang, standing on the barren gray sand plain of this planet.

However, the anger that had ignited within Zhou Fang could no longer dissipate.

That 'Yao Ji' was right.

He must, must, must sever his connection with Li Qi.

Having collected all the fragments, he must connect all the fragments.

Then, let it begin by destroying all of Li Qi's relationships.

"This, this is specific intelligence, you need it, right?" the Nascent Heavenly Demon said, handing Zhou Fang a scroll.

It contained information about La Qi, Yao Ji, Shen Shuibi, and various other things.

Zhou Fang read carefully, understanding everything clearly and remembering it distinctly.

He knew this was where his chance of victory lay.

After committing everything to memory, he destroyed the book and set off on his journey.

Watching Zhou Fang's retreating figure, the Fourth-Rank Nascent Heavenly Demon smiled.

What is the most formidable aspect of a demonic thoughts?

It's not that you're aware of its existence, but that this so-called demonic thoughts is something you willingly embrace.

demonic thoughts doesn't force you, doesn't trick you, doesn't compel you.

All demonic thoughts does is make you 'aware.'

Some things, once you're aware of them, are hard to give up. You'll willingly do many things, and those things are your true 'attachments.'

Or one could learn from Buddhism, letting go of attachments, and naturally not be influenced by 'willingness.'

But often, when you deliberately give up 'willingness,' isn't that also demonic thoughts?

Your wife and daughter are outside the door, waiting for you to save them.

You have become a monk, and you feel that saving them would mean abandoning your arduous cultivation, so you endure the pain and look away, believing you are 'letting go of worldly attachments.'

In reality, perhaps your demonic thoughts has become even deeper; though your wife and daughter are dead, your attachment has not been released.

How to choose is truly difficult; it seems no matter how you choose, you will ultimately fall into the Heavenly Demon's demonic obstacle.

Wife and daughter seem a bit extreme, seemingly easy to handle, but what if wife and daughter were replaced with something else?

For example, the sword in a swordsman's hand: do you want to have a sword in your hand, or no sword in your hand? Or change it to a worldly position: should you continue working, or resign?

This is what a 'Dao enemy' is.

Zhou Fang has finally chosen 'willingness,' and now, he is going to kill the source of his suffering.

He wants to prove that he is not Li Qi, and doing what Li Qi would never do is the method of proof.

Zhou Fang, of course, knew he was being used as a pawn.

But so what? It's just mutual utilization.

He must sever his connection with Li Qi, he must...

Thinking this, Zhou Fang quickly traversed the Universe, and in no time, he appeared in the world, at Mystic Radiance Mountain.

In Mystic Radiance Mountain, Shen Shuibi still had short hair; she was sitting, lost in thought.

However, at this moment, she sensed Li Qi's Qi.

And it wasn't La Qi!
